Step 1 - Introduction
So I’ve got a camera…now what? I want to take great photos. What is the secret? I frequently hear people engage good photographers in conversation, asking about gear, and techniques, how they found their ‘style’, etc. I remember some time ago I cornered a ‘pro’, and that was the type of nuggets I was after. He asked me if I wanted to know the secret. Yes, tell me, I said. Learn the basics, he told me. Learn the basics, the rest will come. And the more time goes by, the more I believe he was really telling me THE secret!
I am by no means a pro, and I continue to learn new things all the time. But, I have been shooting for a while, and I would like to share a few ‘basics’. So maybe you just got your first digital camera, and you’re still looking through your manual, trying to figure out how to turn the darned thing on, great, or even if you have taken a few shots in your day (you might still come across a good reminder), pull up a seat, and have a read.
There are obviously, lots of basics, so, in this session, let’s talk about some basic controls on your camera, and mainly 3 things that can be confusing to some people- aperture, shutter speed and ISO.
